Towards Knowledge Leadership in Family Business

The Centre for Family Business (CFB) was established by The Asia-Pacific Institute of Business (APIB) at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) in 2012. Before the Centre was found, the Centre for Entrepreneurship and the Family Business Consortium under APIB had hosted most of the relevant activities focusing on family entrepreneurship and succession since 2006. Our Business School recognizes the importance of this multi-disciplinary field in the Asian context, and is instrumental in offering a full-spectrum of support to this growing field. The Centre shall serve as a major driver of the family business activities in Hong Kong and in the Asia-Pacific region.

Unlike other traditional family business centres, our Centre carries a dual focus on family enterprising and business advising.  Family businesses go through cycles of development with an increasing complexity in dynamics. We need to know different functional elements to achieve a sustainable growth for family enterprises.  For family businesses to go beyond generations, the role of trusted advisors is very important. The Centre shall leverage its resources to grow this ecology while attaching a high level of neutrality in our research.  Focal points of each pillar are as follows.

Vision

  1. Establish ourselves as a voice for family businesses in China and Asia in areas such as succession planning, family offices, governance, and philanthropy, enabling us to share essential knowledge.
  2. To help build the ecosystem of family business and family office in Hong Kong, China and Asia
  3. To empower family businesses with a Chinese heritage to thrive and make significant contributions to the Greater Bay Area
